Celeste Hirschman, Research Assistant
Celeste
Hirschman, M.A. graduated in from the San Francisco State
University Sexuality Studies program in 2005. Her work in
the program was partly funded by a merit-based Ford Foundation
Scholarship. In her thesis, she looked at the concept of
citizenship as it relates to peer sexuality educators’
teaching practices and insights about their peers. She received
her BA at the University of California at Santa Cruz in
Women’s Studies in 1994. She was recognized with both
the Dean’s and Chancellor’s awards for her thesis,
“Law, Narrative, and the Myth of Subjectivity”
in which she deconstructed the narratives of Supreme Court
abortion rulings from 1972 to 1992. She has published book
reviews and articles in American Sexuality Magazine, including
a co-authored article with Dr. Jessica Fields entitled,
Citizenship Lessons: Sexuality Education in the United States.
At CRGS, she researched young people’s relationships
and sexuality as part of the Healthy Relationships Study
and co-authored journal articles with other CRGS staff.
